why recycle?
Why is recycling important? By landfilling too much of our waste, we are polluting the environment for generations to come with the waste we throw away now. Waste also releases harmful gases into the atmosphere as it biodegrades and is a big contributor to the most harmful and damaging gas, methane.
Although Landfill's are now highly engineered sites that come under massive legislative scrutiny, it is our responsibility to safeguard the environment for the next generation. Thankfully, Simply Waste Solutions are here to help. Not only can we audit your site(s) to identify what might be recycled, but we can also introduce a collection infrastructure to help achieve maximum recycling and landfill avoidance. Of course we realise that cost is an issue, so we work with you and try to help you decide the best course of action. In most cases, recycling your waste will have a positive effect and actually make you money!
landfill tax
In 1996 the government introduced the Landfill Tax levy. Set originally at £7 per tonne it has steadily risen to £40 per tonne (£48 per tonne 2010-11) and the government has indicated that it will rise by at least £8 per year until it reaches a minimum of £80 per tonne. This is in addition to the price paid to the operators of the landfill and will undoubtedly result in gate prices being at least £100 per tonne by 2014. As a result, those companies that do not do any recycling and rely on landfill will see their waste removal costs escalate to levels far in excess of inflation.
